Inter Milan has reportedly extended a new short-term contract offer to defender Stefan de Vrij. Meanwhile, it is possible that Francesco Acerbi could remain in Serie A, with Monza showing interest in the player.
Several players are nearing the end of their contracts on June 30, following Inter’s successful season, which saw them secure both the Scudetto and the Coppa Italia. Among these players are De Vrij and Acerbi, whose futures with the club are still undecided.
Defenders’ Futures Uncertain
According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Inter Milan, also known as the Nerazzurri, have put forward a proposal for De Vrij to stay at the San Siro for an additional season. De Vrij has been a part of the Inter squad since 2018, having joined as a free agent from Lazio. He recently celebrated his 34th birthday in February.
While injuries have posed recurring challenges, the Netherlands international still managed to make 17 competitive appearances during the current campaign. De Vrij has received other contract offers from clubs outside of Italy, and he will carefully consider all his options.
On the other hand, Acerbi may very well continue his career in Serie A next season. Reports from Calciomercato suggest that Monza has approached the experienced defender. Monza has recently secured promotion to Serie A through the play-offs and could greatly benefit from Acerbi’s considerable experience.
Now 38 years old, Acerbi has no immediate plans to retire. He had previously been linked with a move to Al-Hilal, which would have reunited him with his former Lazio and Inter coach, Simone Inzaghi. However, for personal lifestyle reasons, he might be more inclined towards a move to Monza.
