Besiktas Pursues Juventus Winger Edon Zhegrova After Challenging First Season
Edon Zhegrova's tenure at Juventus appears likely to conclude after a single season, with Turkish club Besiktas having initiated contact with the Kosovo winger's agent regarding a potential summer move.
According to reports from Turkish newspaper Fanatik, relayed by IlBianconero, the Kosovar international has fallen short of expectations since his transfer from Lille. The initial deal involved a potential outlay of up to €18.5 million, comprising a base fee of €14.3 million, an additional €1.2 million in costs, and €3 million in bonuses, with a contract extending until June 2030.
His debut season statistics are stark: zero goals, zero assists, and a mere 447 minutes played across 21 appearances.
While injuries have been a contributing factor, Zhegrova has also struggled to impress coach Luciano Spalletti, who has granted him only three appearances in the last 11 matches, accumulating just 65 minutes on the field.
His most critical moment arguably occurred in the second leg of the Champions League match against Galatasaray, where his mistakes drew significant criticism at a crucial juncture of the tie. This incident encapsulated a debut season that has failed to gain traction.
Besiktas is aiming for a high-profile signing this summer, especially with the anticipated departure of winger Milot Rashica, and sees Zhegrova as an achievable and prominent addition. Preliminary discussions have commenced with his representatives to ascertain his interest and availability.
Juventus, having already secured Spalletti's contract extension until 2028 as they build a squad capable of challenging for the title, would be open to offers for Zhegrova rather than continuing with a player who has evidently not adapted to the club's requirements. However, recouping a sum close to their initial investment is expected to be challenging given his underwhelming season.
