Capello's Scudetto Blueprint: Inter's Path to Title Glory After Milan Defeat

Fabio Capello believes that if Inter Milan secure victories in their next three Serie A matches, AC Milan will have no chance of catching them at the top of the table, despite Milan's recent derby win. AC Milan has completed a league double over Inter this season, cemented by their 1-0 victory against Cristian Chivu's league leaders at San Siro on Sunday.

Nevertheless, Inter still holds a seven-point lead with ten games remaining in the 2025-26 season, yet questions have arisen regarding AC Milan's realistic prospects of securing the Scudetto. Capello remarked in his analysis that Inter has never appeared invincible this season, even during their strongest periods, and it's no coincidence they've lost several direct clashes.

He praised Chivu's efforts in revitalizing a dressing room disheartened by their Champions League final loss to PSG, but emphasized that Chivu must now demonstrate even greater skill. According to Capello, Inter's most significant risk between now and the end of the season is psychological.

"The derby, or rather the two derby defeats this season, pose the real threat in the Scudetto race," Capello stated. To win the title, Chivu needs to help players like Barella and his teammates erase the memory of their losses to AC Milan. Capello suggested Chivu should enter the dressing room and remind them: "Guys, we are the strongest. Let's go back to enjoying the game."

Inter faces a crucial series of fixtures, including Atalanta and Fiorentina in the next two weeks, followed by Champions League contenders Roma and Como immediately after the international break. Capello asserts that Inter must immediately regroup and deliver a decisive blow in the league by gaining momentum from their next three matches: against Atalanta, Fiorentina, and Roma, whom he considers their riskiest opponent.

Regarding AC Milan, Capello is confident that if Inter returns to their true form, the Rossoneri will not have the opportunity to overtake them in the Scudetto race. He describes it as a matter of arithmetic. AC Milan head coach Massimiliano Allegri has consistently maintained that his team's goal this season is Champions League qualification, not the Serie A title.

"Allegri understands the calculations well, and with his experience and Scudetti, he knows that all the pressure is on Inter, and sometimes the burden of needing to win at all costs can play tricks," Capello continued. "Max knows best how to motivate his players and will convince them to try until the very end, even if it's just to guarantee early qualification for next season's Champions League, a goal he announced in the summer. It seems like an impossible mission, but logic doesn't always prevail in the final stretch of the race."
