Fabrizio Romano Unpacks Complicated Rodri Transfer Saga Involving Man City & Real Madrid
Renowned transfer news journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided significant insight into the intricate transfer situation surrounding Manchester City midfielder Rodri and reported interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid.
The Spain international recently made public comments hinting at a potential desire to move to the Bernabeu, a sentiment that Romano has corroborated, confirming Real Madrid's genuine interest in the player.
In a recent update via his YouTube channel, Romano revealed that Manchester City has already tabled a new contract offer for Rodri, hoping to persuade him to extend his stay at the Etihad Stadium.
However, the success of this offer remains uncertain. Romano suggests that Rodri still needs to make a final decision on his future, while Real Madrid continues to internally discuss the 29-year-old as a key transfer target.
Fabrizio Romano's Update on the Rodri Transfer Saga
Offering a detailed update on Rodri's situation, Romano stated: "I want to discuss Rodri because, as I told you before his quotes on Real Madrid last week, I was going to keep you updated on my information regarding Rodri’s future."
"The crucial point here is that Rodri, at this moment — and you never know in football — has two paths to decide upon: whether he wants to stay at Manchester City and potentially sign a new contract if he chooses, or plan for a move away from Man City."
Romano added: "His statements about Real Madrid were quite impactful. Obviously, the appreciation from Real Madrid is there. So, for sure, Real Madrid is internally discussing Rodri and he is an option for them. But at the moment, there is still no official bid, no direct club-to-club talks for Rodri."
"But what's the essence? From what I understand, Rodri already has a new contract proposal in his hands from Manchester City. So, Man City is offering a new contract to Rodri, and they are prepared to give him an important salary."
"Right now, the decision rests with Rodri—financially, personally, and with his family about the project and everything else he wants to achieve. He must decide whether to stay at Man City, sign the new contract which is already on the table, or leave Man City either now or in the summer of 2027."
Manchester City Considering Rodri's Replacement?
While Rodri's ultimate decision is pending, it seems logical that Manchester City may already be planning for a potential successor in midfield.
City has been strongly linked with Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson by BBC Sport and other outlets. The talented young England international has significantly impressed this season, catching the eye of top clubs.
Although Anderson is likely to attract interest from other clubs, he appears to be an ideal candidate to replace Rodri. The BBC's report suggests that Pep Guardiola's side is currently in pole position for his signature.
