Massara: ‘Roma Can’t Wait, Europa League is a Key Target’
Roma’s sporting director, Ricky Massara, expressed his eager anticipation for the Europa League Round of 16 second leg against Bologna, emphasizing that the club is determined to win the trophy.
The crucial match will kick off at the Stadio Olimpico tonight at 20:00 GMT (21:00 CET).
Following a 1-1 draw in the first leg at the Stadio Dall’Ara, today’s encounter is a winner-takes-all clash to secure a spot in the quarter-finals, where the victor will face either Aston Villa or Lille.
Roma Prepared for Bologna Challenge
Massara highlighted the strong fan support expected at the stadium, stating: “This is a venue where the atmosphere can truly propel the players. It will be a fantastic occasion, and we eagerly await the match. Roma harbors significant ambition in the Europa League; it’s a goal we are determined to achieve.”
He further added that many games lie ahead until the season's end, beginning with a formidable opponent in Bologna, making this a challenging fixture.
Recently, Roma has faced a somewhat difficult patch, securing only two draws in their last four competitive matches and slipping from fourth to sixth place in the Serie A standings.
Consequently, success in the Europa League has become particularly crucial, as clinching the trophy offers another pathway to qualification for the Champions League.
Massara reiterated: “Tonight, there will be immense motivation from the crowd, but we also need to maintain calm heads to navigate through the various challenges. We are confident and expect our experienced players to guide the younger ones who are less accustomed to games of this magnitude.”
