Napoli Squad Update: Vergara Injured, 'Fab 4' Close to Comeback
Napoli has confirmed the extent of Antonio Vergara's injury, but in more encouraging news for Antonio Conte’s side, his 'Fab 4' midfield group — Scott McTominay, Kevin De Bruyne, Stanislav Lobotka, and Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa — could soon be reunited in the squad.
Vergara's Layoff Confirmed, 'Fab 4' Midfielders Approaching Return
Injuries have been a persistent challenge for Napoli throughout the 2025-26 season, at times leaving an entire starting eleven of first-team players unavailable.
The most recent addition to the Partenopei's injury list is Antonio Vergara. The 23-year-old had primarily gained first-team opportunities due to the aforementioned injury woes, but he has since gone on to impress, earning the 'rising star of the month' award for February and even generating calls for his inclusion in this month’s Italy national team squad.
However, Vergara was forced off at half-time during Napoli’s recent 2-1 victory over Torino and is now expected to miss the next two league fixtures before the international break scheduled for the end of March.
Club officials confirmed that diagnostic tests performed at Pineta Grande Hospital revealed Antonio Vergara suffered a plantar fascia strain in his left foot. He has already commenced a dedicated treatment program.
A realistic return date for Vergara is anticipated to be the Serie A match against Milan on April 6.
In more positive news for Conte and his team, Kevin De Bruyne, who had been sidelined for the past four months, made his return off the bench against Torino. Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa also returned, having missed 16 consecutive Serie A matches due to a hamstring injury.
Scott McTominay is expected to be in contention to feature this coming weekend, and Stanislav Lobotka's return is not anticipated to be much further off.
