Italy legend Alessandro Nesta has shared his insights following the Azzurri's World Cup play-off semi-final win and offered his predictions for the decisive final against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Despite securing a 2-0 victory over Northern Ireland, Nesta admitted he experienced moments of concern during the first half.

"I too got worried in the first half," Nesta confessed on Sky Sport Italia. He attributed Italy's initial struggles to the immense pressure associated with representing the national team, noting that while the Azzurri possess superior individual quality compared to their play-off adversaries, tension can significantly impact performance.

Looking ahead to the final, Nesta cautioned that the upcoming match would be considerably more challenging. "We must be well aware that it’s going to be a lot tougher in Bosnia," he stated, emphasizing the hostile away environment with passionate local fans and Bosnia's overall stronger team quality compared to Northern Ireland, whom he felt did not impress significantly.

Nesta also expressed strong backing for defender Alessandro Bastoni, who recently faced scrutiny over an alleged simulation incident during a club match. Despite playing through an injury in the semi-final, Nesta lauded Bastoni's performance.

"I have to congratulate Bastoni, because they really piled on him about that simulation, and despite not being at his best yesterday due to an injury, he played a great game," Nesta commented. He further defended Bastoni by drawing on his own playing experience. "I always had a reputation for being a fair player, but I too simulated many times in my career. I’ll never lecture Bastoni on morality, he’s super in my eyes."

From a tactical perspective, Nesta observed that Bastoni's offensive capabilities are somewhat diminished when he is deployed centrally in a back three formation.
