Nicolo Tresoldi to Decide on Italy or Germany Allegiance in Summer 2027
Nicolo Tresoldi has not yet committed to representing either Italy or Germany at the senior international level. He expects to make a final decision in the summer of 2027.
The 22-year-old Club Brugge striker, born in Cagliari, moved to Germany as a teenager. He has played for Germany at the U19 and U21 levels. This season, Tresoldi has scored five goals in nine appearances across all competitions, including in the Champions League against Aston Villa.
While there were calls in Italy for the young player to join Roberto Mancini's squad for upcoming Nations League matches, Tresoldi was not included for the September-October international break. He will continue playing with the Germany U21 team for now.
Speaking to Sky in Germany, Tresoldi stated he intends to play with the Germany U21s until the end of this summer's European Championships. He admitted his heart remains "50:50" regarding his international future.
"Both countries mean a lot to me," Tresoldi said. "I wear the German jersey with pride. I love being here. I still want to play the European Championships and after that, we’ll see how it goes."
