Rodri to Real Madrid? Manchester City Open to Surprise Transfer Amid Contract Halt
Manchester City is reportedly considering the unexpected sale of star midfielder Rodri to Real Madrid, following a halt in negotiations over a new contract for the Spanish international.
Speculation linking Rodri with a move to the Spanish capital has intensified, with football insider Fabrizio Romano mentioning Real Madrid in connection with the player. The buzz around a potential summer transfer continues to grow.
Rodri himself has not dismissed the possibility of a move to the Santiago Bernabéu, downplaying suggestions that his previous ties to rivals Atlético Madrid would prevent him from joining Real. According to reports from TEAMtalk, it appears both Manchester City and Rodri are increasingly open to parting ways this summer.
Rodri Addresses Real Madrid Transfer Rumours
Commenting on his future, Rodri stated, as quoted by Sky Sports: “I have a year left on my contract. There will come a point when we’ll have to sit down and talk.” He further added, “There are other players who’ve taken that path (between both Madrid clubs). Not directly, but over time. You can’t turn down the best clubs in the world.”
The midfielder also expressed a desire to return to his home country: “I would like to return (to La Liga) yes, of course. For me, La Liga is where I started. I still follow it, not as much as before, but I still follow it. But right now, I am very happy here (in the Premier League).”
Manchester City's Plans for Rodri's Replacement
The TEAMtalk report also indicates that Manchester City is already exploring options to replace Rodri, with names like Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson and Newcastle's Sandro Tonali being mentioned as potential targets.
Replacing a player of Rodri's caliber would be a significant challenge for City. The 29-year-old has been instrumental in the club's success, contributing to four Premier League titles and a Champions League victory during his tenure at the Etihad Stadium.
Should Rodri ultimately move to Real Madrid this summer, he would undoubtedly be an exciting acquisition for the Spanish giants, while leaving substantial shoes to fill in Manchester.
