Zeki Celik Poised for Free Agent Move as Roma Contract Talks Collapse
Reports indicate that Zeki Celik is unlikely to extend his contract with AS Roma, positioning him as an attractive free agent target for several top European clubs. Juventus, Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City are among the teams reportedly monitoring the situation closely.
The versatile Turkish international, who turned 29 last month, is capable of playing as a right-back, wing-back, and has even filled in at central defence when required. His current agreement with Roma is set to expire on June 30, and discussions regarding a renewal have reportedly encountered significant obstacles.
Significant Salary Gap Hinders Celik's Roma Extension
According to reports, Roma's latest contract offer stands at €2.4 million per season, a figure considerably lower than his agent's demand for a €4 million annual salary. With such a substantial disparity between the two parties and time rapidly running out before his contract concludes, Celik appears increasingly likely to leave the club as a free agent this summer.
The situation is also said to be contributing to internal discussions regarding the player's future, as some within the club are reportedly keen to secure his continued presence in the squad. Juventus is currently considered a frontrunner to sign Celik, while Premier League powerhouses, including Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Fulham, and Manchester United, have also been heavily linked.
Celik initially joined Roma from LOSC Lille in the summer of 2022 for a fee of €7.4 million. This season, he has made 37 competitive appearances for the Giallorossi, contributing one goal and four assists.
