AC Milan’s Director of Sport, Igli Tare, emphasizes that “it is our duty to have the Scudetto as an objective” for the club. He also notes that it is “easier” to persuade players such as Luka Modric to join the Rossoneri compared to his previous role at Lazio.
After retiring from his playing career, Tare transitioned into management at Lazio. Following a year-long sabbatical, he took on the role at AC Milan last summer.
Tare described the move to Milan as a “pretty substantial change.” He explained, “With the name Milan, it’s easier to convince players to join compared to when I was at Lazio, both for the history of the club and the financial capability.”
Among the players drawn to the historical significance of the San Siro giants was Luka Modric, who has openly admitted to being a childhood supporter of the Serie A club. “I knew that Modric was a Milan fan when he was a kid, so when we met and talked about the project, I saw he really knew a lot about the club. He had other offers, but wanted to make his dream come true of playing for Milan,” Tare revealed.
Modric is currently sidelined for the remainder of the season due to surgery for a fractured cheekbone. With his contract set to expire on June 30th, his future at the club remains uncertain. However, Tare expressed optimism, stating, “I think he will choose with his heart and remain at Milan.”
Under the guidance of coach Max Allegri, Milan is on track to secure a third-place finish and Champions League qualification in their first season. “I have a very good rapport with him,” Tare commented. “We met at the start of the season, then didn’t have a lot of time to get to know each other better, but after the transfer window shut we managed to have some dinners together. He is a very intelligent person who knows how to handle certain dressing room situations.”
“Milan chose Allegri for his history and the bond he already had with this club, his experience, and above all the ability to handle an important club like this,” Tare added.
While Milan was in contention for the Scudetto, they ultimately faltered as Inter secured the league title, despite losing both Milan derbies. “We have good players, but unfortunately there are seasons with difficulties, and many of our strikers had injuries which didn’t allow them to train consistently,” Tare explained.
“It is not just me that has the title in mind, but the club that always wants to always be competitive. Having the Scudetto in our minds as an objective is our duty.”

AC Milan’s Sporting Director, Igli Tare, asserts that the club has a “duty to have the Scudetto as an objective.” He also highlights that it is “easier” to persuade players such as Luka Modric to join the Rossoneri in comparison to his experience at Lazio.
Tare, a former striker, moved into management at Lazio immediately after his playing career. After a year’s break, he accepted the position at AC Milan last summer.
“It is a pretty substantial change,” Tare admitted in an interview with DAZN Italia. “With the name Milan, it’s easier to convince players to join compared to when I was at Lazio, both because of the club’s history and its financial capacity.”
Modric, who has openly stated his childhood support for the Serie A side, was among the players attracted by the prestige of the San Siro giants. Tare recalled, “I knew that Modric was a Milan fan when he was a kid, so when we met and discussed the project, I saw that he was very knowledgeable about the club. He had other offers, but he wanted to fulfill his dream of playing for Milan.”
The Croatian international is out for the remainder of the season following surgery on a fractured cheekbone, and with his contract expiring on June 30th, his future remains undecided. Tare expressed his belief that “he will choose with his heart and remain at Milan.”
In their first season under coach Max Allegri, Milan is on track to finish third and qualify for the Champions League. “I have a very good relationship with him,” Tare continued. “We met at the beginning of the season, and then didn’t have much time to get to know each other better. However, after the transfer window closed, we managed to have some dinners together. He is a very intelligent person who knows how to handle certain dressing room situations.”
“Milan selected Allegri because of his history and the existing connection he had with this club, his experience, and most importantly, his ability to manage an important club like this.”
The Rossoneri were also contenders for the Scudetto, but ultimately saw their challenge fade as Inter took control of the campaign, despite Milan winning both Derby della Madonnina encounters. “We have good players, but unfortunately, there are seasons with challenges, and many of our strikers suffered injuries that prevented them from training consistently,” Tare added.
“It’s not just me who has the title in mind; it’s the club that always aims to be competitive. Having the Scudetto as our objective is our duty.”
