AC Milan has reportedly emerged as a contender in the pursuit of Lazio defender Mario Gila. He is already a target for Napoli, Atalanta, and Inter Milan, with Lazio setting an asking price exceeding €25 million.
Gila is set to become a free agent next summer as his current contract is nearing its end, and no extension negotiations are currently underway. Consequently, his departure from Lazio appears inevitable. The club, however, is holding out for a substantial fee, particularly given that they still owe Real Madrid a portion of the transfer sum from Gila’s €6 million move in 2022.
Multiple Clubs Vie for Gila
Napoli has shown the most significant interest to date, with the signing of Gila reportedly a specific request from their incoming coach, Max Allegri. However, Tuttomercatoweb now reports that Milan has rekindled its interest in the defender, who will celebrate his 26th birthday next month.
This is not entirely new interest from Milan, but it has certainly been re-energized. It’s understood that Napoli cannot finalize a deal for Gila until they have first completed another player sale. Atalanta remains in the running, where Gila could potentially reunite with former Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri. Inter Milan is also known to be actively seeking defensive reinforcements.
