Born on July 9, 1988, in Chicago, Illinois, Belal Muhammad is the son of Palestinian immigrants. His athletic journey began during his school years, where he developed a keen interest in wrestling. This interest continued through his time at the University of Illinois, where he also pursued studies in law. Ultimately, his fervent dedication to martial arts overshadowed his legal aspirations, leading him to pursue a career in the professional fighting octagon.

MMA Career Genesis

Muhammad initiated his professional mixed martial arts career in 2012, competing under the banner of Hoosier Fight Club. His debut was marked by a decisive knockout victory over Justin Brock. Later that year, he also made a successful appearance in Bellator, securing a unanimous decision win against Quinton McCortell.

From 2013 to 2015, Muhammad built an impressive record, accumulating eight victories across various promotions including HFC, Bellator, and Titan FC.

His consistent success culminated in April 2016 when he claimed the Titan FC championship belt, triumphing over Steve Carl via technical knockout. This significant achievement paved the way for Belal to sign a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Journey to the UFC: Notable Bouts and Adversaries

Belal Muhammad's highly anticipated UFC debut occurred in the summer of 2016 at UFC Fight Night 90, held in Las Vegas on July 7th. He stepped into the octagon against the seasoned Alan Jouban, accepting the challenge on short notice as a replacement for the injured Nordin Taleb.

The bout commenced with Jouban initiating aggressive striking exchanges. Muhammad, in turn, displayed skillful defense coupled with well-timed counterattacks. As the fight progressed into the second and third rounds, the intensity escalated, with both competitors exchanging powerful blows and maintaining a relentless pace. Despite the unanimous decision going to Jouban, the electrifying performance earned both fighters the coveted ‘Fight of the Night’ bonus.

Undeterred by his debut loss, Belal Muhammad returned to the cage just two months later, eager to demonstrate his capabilities against Augusto Montaño at UFC Fight Night 94.

Right from the opening bell, it was evident that Muhammad had thoroughly analyzed his previous performance. Consequently, Muhammad was instead matched against Vicente Luque, a renowned knockout specialist. Their encounter on November 12, 2016, presented a formidable challenge for Belal.
